Steele Creek Church of Charlotte (SCCC) is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic ministry united by their faith in Jesus Christ. With nearly 50 nations represented through our members and missionaries, SCCC is devoted to seeing Christ bring the nations together here in the greater Charlotte area and around the world.

Who We Are… and Who We Are Becoming

It is our desire and mission to share the love of Christ in very real ways to a variety of people just like, and even very different from, you. In doing so, we enjoy seeing a little bit of heaven on earth as Christ is truly the Lord to which “every knee shall bow… and every tongue shall confess…” (Romans 14:11)

Our History

In 1986, Pastor Kelvin Smith responded to God’s call to minister to those in need in Jackson Park, a neighborhood near Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Eventually, the growth of the ministry and continuing needs of the community encouraged the start of a church body. In September 1995, Steele Creek Church of Charlotte was born. Today, SCCC maintains this passion for helping the poor by remaining closely involved with several ministries that serve the inner city needs of Charlotte, such as Blessings in the Storm, The Urban Restoration, Hoskins Park Ministries, Lois’ Lodge, and through our own Temporary Housing Ministry.

What to Expect

Worshipping together as a diverse family often means stepping out of our “comfort zone”, so at our weekend worship services, you will see a variety of expressions and music from a diversity of people. We do this for the greater joy set before us of seeing what can happen when we truly worship Christ together. Black or white, young or old, native Charlottean or international- our ministries reflect the love of Christ as a people who are being transformed. Our weekend worship experiences (including our six ethnic Bridges services), Home Fellowship Groups, Family Ministries along with the Inner City Ministries that we support are places where everyone can “come as you are” to experience the life-changing love of Jesus Christ through the truth of his word, the Bible, and the love of his Church.

Our Aim

Everything that we do at SCCC is motivated by our belief that a loving God sent his Son Jesus Christ to earth to be “the way and the truth and the life”(John 14:6). After dying on the cross to pay for our sins, God also promised that he would one day come back to not only “wipe away every tear” (Revelation 21:4) but also judge the world and reward every person for how they responded to Him on this earth. The Apostle Paul summed it up this way:

“Therefore, we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.”  (2 Corinthians 5:9-11)

At Steele Creek Church of Charlotte, we take this responsibility very seriously and have developed a discipling model to help prepare us for the day we meet Jesus face-to-face. “Living on Target”, based on 2 Cor 5:9-11, is our strategy for maturing in the faith and leading fruitful and victorious lives in Christ. We do this by:

  1. Living in Relationship with God.
  2. Liiving by God’s Word in the Home.
  3. Living in Love and Service to the Church.
  4. Living in Love and Service to the World.
