Degar (Montagnard)

Degar (Montagnard)

Steele Creek Church is pleased to join the Degar (Montagnard) leaders in loving and serving the Degar people. The Degar congregation meets together every Sunday for a worship service in their native language.

The Degar are a persecuted people group from the highland of Vietnam. At the end of the Vietnam War, 3,000 refugees were brought to the U.S. Currently, there are over 140 refugees living in Charlotte and worshipping with us at SCC. There are also groups living and meeting for services in Greensboro, Raleigh and New Bern, and they meet collectively about twice per year. Many of them cannot communicate well in English, so they are grateful for the freedom to worship in their native tongue. They have many physical needs but are grateful for the freedom to worship and we are learning how to partner together.
