Fit For Life
How strong is your faith? How Strong is your family? How strong are your finances? Many people resolve annually at this time to be stronger more fit in these areas and others. Have you ever considered that these three are all interconnected? In a new three-week-series; Fit 4 Life, we will look at these three key components of life and according to God’s Word, how to become healthy in each one.
The great preacher, Jonathan Edwards would routinely make resolutions toward greater spiritual fitness. At age 19 once wrote, “Being sensible that I am unable to do anything without God’s help, I do humbly entreat Him by His grace to enable me to keep these resolutions, so far as they are agreeable to His will, for Christ’s sake.” Our hope is that you will seek the help of Christ to be stronger in these areas too. Join us January 20 through February 3 as we get Fit 4 Life!
January 20 – FIT FOR LIFE: Faith
Hebrews 11:1-16, James 1:2-4, James 1
A faith that cannot be tested, cannot be trusted
The Saints of old withstood tremendous pressures, opposition, and persecution. They were tested and tried and were found to be faithful. But how would they know how strong their faith was without it being tested? How would it grow without those problems?
So, what about you? How would you know of your faithfulness unless it is tried? Where is your faith fitness now? Do you wither like a blade of grass on a hot day or stand strong in the face of problems? Faith, like a muscle must be exercised. Knowing this when problems come gives us the advantage of seeing that A faith that cannot be tested, cannot be trusted. Next step: I will commit to daily word, worship and prayer, and to a biblical group weekly.
January 27 – FIT FOR LIFE: Family
Family done in God’s order produces peace!
It’s been said that family is the first institution God made. One comedian, said sure, but who wants to live in an institution? What’s the biblical order? How does living that order transform families from a mere institution to a life-giving place of peace? The Bible is clear and its’ truths are time tested. Family done in God’s order produces peace!! Measure your peace in your family and determine your family fitness! Next step: I will commit to God’s order in my family
February 3 – FIT FOR LIFE: Finances
Matt. 6:19-24, 1Tim. 6:17-19
It’s no coincidence that living and giving sound the same
Someone has wisely said that the secret to money management is to “have your wealth as opposed to your wealth having you.” The way to “have” your wealth, is to see it as a tool for God’s blessing to you and through you. Believers understand that what they have, they have because of God and we are to use it for His kingdom and in essence store it up for eternity. Money doesn’t make you rich, in fact it may rob you of enjoying your life. Possessions don’t make you more important, in fact they can be a burden that weighs you down. Did you know that the word “miser” and “misery” come from the same root? It’s no coincidence that living and giving sound the same. Manage what you have well, give freely storing up treasure, and live financially fit!
