What is project 1040?

Project 1040 is Steele Creek Church’s global commitment to the 10/40 Window. The 10/40 Window is a term used by many churches and missionaries to describe a part of the world where most people haven’t heard about Jesus. It’s called the “10/40 Window” because it’s between 10 and 40 degrees north of the equator, covering parts of North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Our heart is to send and support missionaries who are sharing the Gospel in places where Jesus is least known.

Each month, we focus our prayers on a different country within the 10/40 Window, lifting up the people, leaders, and those called to serve there.

Country of the Month

Senegal is a West African nation known for its religious tolerance and freedom, yet there remains a great need for the Gospel. Approximately 91% of the population is Muslim, and despite a long-standing Christian presence, relatively few among the Muslim majority have come to faith in Jesus.

Operation World describes Senegal as both spiritually “open and closed.” While different faiths are tolerated, deeply rooted religious traditions and influential Muslim Sufi brotherhoods can make following Jesus incredibly difficult.

We are praying for a spiritual breakthrough in Senegal and for the Gospel to take root in communities, families, and future generations.

Pray for unreached people groups. Ask God to reveal Jesus through His Word and His people among the Wolof, Fulakunda, Tukulor, Jola, Sereer, and Mandinka. Pray that many would hear and understand the Gospel and choose to follow Christ.

Pray for the Gantt and Russell families. These are two families we are partnering with in Senegal. Pray for their protection, encouragement, wisdom, relationships, and opportunities to faithfully share the Gospel.

Pray for the talibé boys. An estimated 100,000 talibé boys beg on the streets of Senegal. Pray that these vulnerable children would experience safety, compassion, and dignity and that they would encounter the hope and love of Jesus.

Pray for Senegalese believers. Ask God to build a strong, deeply rooted community of believers who will encourage one another, remain faithful in the face of opposition and persecution, and boldly share Jesus with others.

Pray for the Tyrannus School. Pray for the work of the Tyrannus School as it trains indigenous leaders to reach their own communities with the Gospel. Ask God to raise up Senegalese pastors, teachers, evangelists, and disciple-makers who will multiply the Church throughout the nation.
